Here is the problem from today. Just in case you need it to finish your homework.
Ms Pike :)
Mr. Humphrey is trying to build the garden that the eco-team planned for the school. He knows the area of the garden is 50m2 and that one side of the garden should be 25m. How long should he cut the wood for the other side of the garden? How much wood does he need in total?

Letter Writing
Hello P2!
We are well on our way in writing our persuasive letters to Ace, the Toronto Blue Jays mascot to convince him what a healthy, active school Bellmere is, and that he deserves to visit us!
Here are some tools which will help you write your rough draft of your letter. Remember - You only need to write the draft tonight using ideas from your idea web. We will revise, edit and publish in class.
Happy Persuading!
Ms. Pike & Mr. Chen

Shape Up for Shapes!
And figures....and angles :)
We are just finishing up our pre-assessments to find out what we remember from Grade 4 about shapes and figures. We hope to be done by the end of the week and then move into our unit on Geometric Relationships and Properties. We hope to spend about 4 weeks learning about this topic. Here are our learning goals for the unit:

Here are our learning goals for the unit:
I will…
·
Talk about the difference between polygons, regular
polygons and other two-dimensional shapes;
·
Talk about the difference between prisms, right prisms,
and other three-dimensional figures;
·
Use nets to identify pyramids and prisms;
·
Create nets of different prisms and pyramids;
·
Identify, classify, measure and construct different
types of angles;
·
Identify and sort triangles based on their angle and
side properties;
·
Construct different types of triangles using an angle
and a side length;
Here are some websites that may help you learn at home:
I also suggest cutting apart empty boxes to see what the nets look like and then tape them together to create new nets and sketch those nets. If you do this, bring it into school so we can see!
Stay Warm!

Science Experiment Day
Hello, Today we did a lot of experiments. The experiments were: plop plot fizz fizz, green pennies, in suspense, magic potion, up in flames. We had a guest . Can you guess?? I don't think so we will tell you. It was Justin!! We did the experiments in the library! Ms. M. Prezens was helping us at the library. For plop plot fizz fizz and green pennies we did it by ourselves. For the in suspense Justin was there. For the experiment magic potion Ms.M. Prezens was there. For the experiment up in flames Mrs. Pike was there. It was alot of fun. In the morning we did math. Pay attention!!! Don't Forget to Study For the Math Test On Friday!!!

The Snowy Wednesday
Today we did our pre-assessment in geometry. It was easy for most of us. After recess we read the book "The boy who harnessed the wind". This book was about wind power and a boy named William building a wind turbine .
After lunch we listened 4 songs.The four songs were called: Time to say good bye,Vivo per lei,thunderstruck and beautiful Sunday. After 2 songs we did some questions. Last we had Library.
This Day Was Fun!!!

Our Next Science Unit Is....
Properties and Changes in Matter!
We will spend the next few weeks looking at the three states of matter and how they can be changed. It would be great if you could visit your local library and take out some books about experiments that deal with changes in matter. Do some and home and then bring in your results to share with the class. We will be doing a few experiments ourselves, so we may need some items from home. If we do, we will ask for those later.

Science
Learning Goals – Properties and Changes in Matter
I will….
·
Learn about the three states of matter;
·
Learn how matter can be changed and what that
change looks like;
·
Know what changes of matter are reversible
and which ones are not;
·
Identify some properties of matter;
·
Identify some changes of state and what a
physical or chemical change is;
·
Use science terminology correctly (e.g.,matter,
change, physical, chemical)
Have Fun!

Welcome To 2013!
Hello!
It was nice to see every one's smiling (but tired) faces this morning. I'm glad that everyone got to school on time, and was ready to learn.
We are starting a few new units this week: Geometry and Science. I'll post more later about the science unit, but here are our learning goals for Geometry.
Wishing you a Happy, Healthy and Productive 2013!

Learning
Goals: Location and Movement
I will…
·
Learn about, and use cardinal directions;
·
Use grid systems on a map;
·
Talk about, describe, and do different types
of translations;
·
Use different tools to create translations or
reflections;
·
Analyze different translations or reflections
Wishing you a Happy, Healthy and Productive 2013!
