We have just finished our unit on whole numbers, decimals and fractions. I will be marking the test this weekend and hope to have your child's final mark back to them sometime next week.
Starting Monday we will be working on graphing until the end of December. Here are our learning goals for the unit:
Learning Goals – Graphing
I will…
· Identify if data is discrete or continuous data;
· Collect and organize primary and secondary data;
· Use scales on graphs;
· Learn how we can use a little bit of data to make judgements;
· Decide if the way that data was collected was fair or not;
· Make conclusions about data I see;
· Learn about, and calculate mean;
· Compare two related sets of data and talk about what is the same and what’s different in the data;
· Use different types of graphs to help me represent and compare data (e.g., stem and leaf plot, double bar graphs, broken line graphs
As you and your child come across different graphs, have them talk about what they notice in the graph and how they think the data was collected. Have them make their own graphs about things that happen in your home. Remember that we will be using different types of graphs like Stem and Leaf Plot, Double Bar Graph and the new one for Grade 5: Broken Line Graph.
Here is some information about those types of graphs:

We will also be using the website "Create A Graph" - But PLEASE do not use the pie or the XY graph as they are not our grade level.

Have A Great Weekend!
